We encourage you to ask questions and actively participate in your healthcare journey.
- Financial Transparency and Support – UMC is committed to making healthcare accessible. The world of healthcare insurance and billing can be confusing. We want to make this part of your care as simple as possible. Here’s our process:
- Appointment scheduling – The process begins when you schedule an appointment. During this step, it’s important to provide accurate personal and insurance information, including your insurance ID and group number.
- During Check – In – On the day of your appointment, you’ll check in at the provider’s office. At this point, you may be asked to present your insurance card and fill out any necessary forms. This information helps us accurately bill your insurance.
- Medical Services Rendered – During your visit, the healthcare provider performs the necessary medical services, which may include examinations, tests, or treatments. The details of these services are documented for billing purposes.
- Submission of Claims – After your visit, the healthcare provider’s office submits a claim to your insurance company. This claim includes information about the services provided, diagnosis codes, and the provider’s charges.
- Adjudication by Insurance Company – The insurance company reviews the submitted claim and determines the amount covered based on your policy. This process is known as adjudication. The insurance company assesses whether the services are covered, calculates the allowed amount, and applies any deductibles, co-payments, or co-insurance.
- Generation of Explanation of Benefits – Once the claim is processed, the insurance company sends you an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). The EOB details the services billed, the amount covered by insurance, any out-of-pocket costs, and the remaining balance. It’s not a bill but rather an explanation of how the claim was processed.
- Patient Responsibility & Statements – If there are out-of-pocket costs, such as co-payments, co-insurance, or deductibles, you are responsible for paying these amounts. You will receive a statement for these costs at your address on file. You can pay your balance over the phone, online or in person. If you are unable to pay the full amount, we can set up a payment plan. Just call our billing office at 208-908-7220 to initiate that process.
If you do not have medical insurance, we offer a generous self-pay discount of 50% if paid in full at the time of service.
